What are the Stages of the process?
Getting Checked
Early screening is the best preventitive method. If your family has any history with colon cancer, it would be smart to reach out to your doctor and get checked out. This can be done with genetic testing and a colonoscopy.
Treatment
If you do find something with your checkup, the best thing to do is to follow doctors instructions and start treatment quickly. Depending on the stage of the cancer it can be a simple fix or a more intense one. Treatments usually include surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. If cancer is detected soon enough, it is usually pretty treatable. If it is genetic such as lynch syndrome, inform your family and have them genetically tested.
Aftermath
After you finish treatments, it doesn't mean the process is over. Usually most people deal with a degree of trauma and financial hardship from the process. It is best to take actions to get your life back in working order. This can be done by speaking to social workers, therapists, and finding support groups.
